Oracle Soar to cut migrating costs of EBS users in their journey to Cloud
Larry Ellison, CTO & Chairman of Oracle on Tuesday unveiled Oracle Soar, an upgrade tool to automate Oracle ERP migration to the Cloud. Oracle believes that Soar can reduce time & migration costs by upto 30% percent. True Cloud Method, Oracle’s proprietary approach to support customers throughout the journey to the cloud, powers the automation process. This process is guided by a dedicated Oracle concierge service to help ensure a rapid and predictable upgrade that aligns with modern, industry best practices. Oracle Soar is available for Oracle EBS, PeopleSoft & Hyperion customers planning to migrate to ERP Cloud. Oracle Soar includes four tools for migration. They are discovery assessment, process analyzer, automated data and configuration migration utilities, and rapid integration tools. Customers can keep the upgrade on-track by monitoring the status of their cloud transition via an intuitive mobile application, which features a step-by-step implementation guide indicating exactly what needs to be done each day.

Customers migrating to HCM Cloud need to wait as this tool is still in development. Oracle is investing in the development of Soar to make the tool available for customers migrating to HCM Cloud. HCM Cloud and ERP Cloud products are well established and functionally deep.
Ellison also discussed how “Integration Accelerator”, a large library of more than 100 pre-build integrations, of pluggable integrations can speed up the go live by integrating with Salesforce and even SAP.
Oracle Soar evaluates the existing configurations & customizations set in an E-Business Suite for reproducing the same in ERP Cloud. Once this is done, Soar uses the Configuration Analyzer to understand Chart of A/cs, memory requirements, disk capacities etc. for duplicating in Cloud. Final step involves re-implementing the EBS in Cloud.
Oracle boasts that Oracle Soar can take care of customizations. This may sound amazing however, this process is complex & this cannot be automated in full depending on how organizations adapt & engage in their journey to cloud.
Overall, Soar is a good attempt from Oracle to push Cloud to on-premise users. Oracle Cloud has currently more than 4000 customers and is aggressively promoting Cloud applications in cloud market competition with Amazon & Microsoft.
